The Briarwood Sixth form
The sixth form builds on the excellent work from our primary and secondary departments, and focuses upon the important transitional issues into adult life. All our students have access to qualifications and awards on the foundation learning tier and will be able to gain pre entry and entry level qualifications. Targets set for individual learning plans are addressed through our course structure, challenging students in an age appropriate and often vocational context.
Asdan Courses
ASDAN Courses and Awards provide a range of programmes to facilitate accreditation of young people’s achievement in the areas of PSHE and Citizenship, work-related learning, community volunteering, economic wellbeing, sports and fitness, enterprise, expressive arts, relationships education, outdoor and residential experiences, peer mentoring and international links. We design these with individual needs in mind.
Asdan Towards Independence course work provides our students with a broad and exciting curriculum base to maximise language and communication skills and a host of independence promoting activities suitable for young adults.
The new Entry 1 qualification in Personal Progress is an approved qualification within the Foundation Learning Tier (FLT). It is made up of units which can be broadly divided into the following areas: Personal Development, Functional Skills, Independent Living Skills and Vocational/Work Skills. This also provides student reward for meeting specific learning targets.
Workright provides a framework to develop a range of basic transferable employability skills. The programme has been developed for young people (aged 14+) and adults who are following a work-based/work experience programme of study. It can cater for a wide range of abilities: those performing below Entry Level through to those at Entry Level 3 who may be able to quickly progress to N/SVQ programmes and employment.
