Education and Courses

Our ability to deliver quality inclusive educational programmes continues to grow and has contributed significantly to the “outstanding” grade of the Briarwood Sixth form, as reported by OFSTED.

Business Enterprise

We have developed the production processes necessary to produce a range of products based on print and production (Canvas prints, Banners, T shirts etc). This small Props funded company gives real vocational opportunities to young people with learning disabilities and also acts as a platform to deliver a range of ASDAN accredited courses such as employability, workright and personal progress. It’s also a perfect platform for our business partners to key into our qualifications framework, and for them to contribute their work skills and experience to our students. Consequently, we have another totally integrated scheme that unites community groups with equity to achieve common goals.

Extended Schools

Props run two after school clubs based at the Briarwood 6th form – a creative club and a business enterprise club. The students are working towards completing the ASDAN activities short course award. These successful initiatives also give opportunities for students to socialise with their friends and meet people from outside the school community in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

Music Technology

PROPS has invested resources into providing disabled musicians with pathways into music. We use assistive technology to explore, create and perform music and allow those who cannot access traditional instruments a way of participating. We have performed at various events over the past few years including the St Wulfstan celebrations in Hawkesbury Upton and our Christmas performance is now a hugely popular event. 2008’s performance was attended by and featured around 15 members of Bristol Rugby’s 1st team, adding a finale to proceedings.
Currently we employ the services of a music technology tutor to run a course designed to motivate and engage students who have difficulties in attending and participating in formal learning situations. The students are working towards an ASDAN short course performing arts award

Work Experience

Through our strong community business links we are able to provide work experiences for students, which is backed up by ASDAN accredited coursework. IKEA currently support students in their restaurant and staff canteen. These students have their own staff uniform and carry out tasks in the restaurant such as wiping and cleaning tables on a weekly basis. The Bitton Avon Valley Railway Charity also support students, who assist maintaining the gardens and other worthwhile vocational tasks.. All these placements enable students to experience a working environment and allow them to develop the necessary skills. The station facilities also act as a selling point for Business enterprise products.
